Right now I'm still on 3.2.3 on my 38mm series 2 and everything works fine.

Everyday I end with 59-65% battery when I go to bed if I haven't used the gps. Sometimes there is a 30 minute run on the TM mixed in there too.

How is your experience with your series 2 on the latest watch os? How is performance? Any noticeable lag where there didn't used to be any? If so do the new features outweigh the laggyness?

I'm interested in the new heart rate monitoring features. Does this make battery life worse than it was before?

I'm also a runner and use the gps 3-5 times a week an hour to hour and a half long runs. Has battery life changed using the gps for the better or worse?

Also I'm on 10.3.3 on my iPhone 7 and I know I'd have to update that too and that could open up a whole new can of worms as well! What do you guys think? Anybody in the same situation as me? Should I update my stuff or will I be disappointed overall with performance and battery life? There's no going back! That's what sucks. Thanks guys.

I’m on 4.2.1 and it is getting better with evey release. But it is still not as smooth as 3.2.3. Especially the activity app i ludicrisly laggy. If you do not dismiss your workout, the next time you bring it up it can take up to 5-7 sek just to be able to scroll down to the done button. Starting the app and selecting a workout can also take quite a few seconds before it responds to scrolling or touches.
Battery time is about ~15% worse than on 3.2.3, but mine is a 42mn so it still goes two days (but only just barely now).

Thanks for the feedback. I use the workout app frequently now because I used to use the Nike plus app but it was sooooo laggy and slow and sometimes screwed up and crashed in the middle of runs. So I gave up with that and have used the standard built in workout app for my runs now and it has been rock solid.

I really value performance and battery life over features. I think I may have to hold off. Seems like the series 3 is the watch to have to run the watchOS smoothly.

I have three series 2 watches, all on 4.2. I never noticed any difference in battery life or performance when I updated each of them to 4.2 I use Siri to start my walking workouts everyday and to end them and it always works great. Each battery lasts about two days, just as it did on 3.X.

I also have three series 3 watches, all on 4.2. The performance is about the same on 4.2 on these watches as it is on my series 2. Battery life seems to last me between 1.5 to 2 days on each watch.
