I just updated to 10.6.4 and it never asked for my admin password before installing. I don't remember, do the OS updates normally ask for the password before installing? I would assume so since it needs admin access...

Mine always does, but then I run both my Macs as user-level accounts with separate admin accounts for admin tasks. Check in your Sys Prefs>Accounts panel whether your account is enabled as an administrator.

I'm at work, no access to my Mac, but...

I only have 1 user so I'll assume it has admin privileges. Whenever I install new software or get updates, it always asks for my password. I was wondering why for this particular update it did not. Do OS updates not ask for password, I guess I can't be 100% sure if updates in the past (e.g. 10.6.3) asked for my password.

I have to enter my user name and password just to run the software updater, but I use a standard account. I wasn't asked again for it after that point though from what I remember last night so maybe you just entered it earlier and forgot about it later on.
