Update to 5.0.1 wiped GameCenter account

Last night I updated my wife's iPhone 4 to 5.0.1 and she went to play a GC game today and it asked her to create a new GC nick name, stating her old one is in use, despite logging into the same Apple ID as the original nick name.

Has anyone seen this? Anyone have a remedy?
