Update to macbooks = update to programs?

Hi everyone:
I am going to be making the transition to macs and I had a question. Since there is a new update for the macbooks coming out, does this suggest that new programs will follow? Does able release programs in a similar manner or should we not expect new ilife, iwork, etc.?

Hardware and Software updates are on different schedules. An update to one gives no indication of an update to the other.
