I tried asking about this in the 7,1 forum, but no replies so far.

I updated from Big Sur 11.2.1 to 11.2.2. My sound output device disappeared and the external speakers are not visible. It apparently disabled the audio port on the back of the computer and caused it to vanish.

Through some error and error (and some trials) I found that my CalDigit3 (Thunderbolt 3 dock) was recognized in the sound output options list, so that's where the external speakers are now connected, and they seem to work fine.

Then I read in this forum that 11.2.2 changes the iBridge firmware which among many other things controls the sound output.

Question: is this the culprit? Has anyone else had this happen or am I the only lucky one LOL

Tom

UPDATE: downgraded to 11.2.1: sound port is back and functioning. Preferences calls it "Headphone port."

UPDATE #2: Spoke with Apple Support who said they'd check it out and get back to me Wednesday.

UPDATE #3: At Applecare's request I reinstalled 11.2.2 following the 11.2.1 downgrade. After the reinstall of 11.2.2, everything works as it is supposed to, including the sound. Bizarre...
