I updated my iMac 20" (from 2007) to 10.6.4 a few months ago and when the system rebooted itself after the installation, it just stopped after a few minutes with lines showing up on the screen (sometimes it turns black).

I can boot the system with a external usb-drive (from my old MacBook) and then everything works like a charm.

I thought that maybe it was a HD-failure, and today I finally started working on it.. I managed to install a new internal harddrive (tricky!!) but when I try to install Snow Leopard 10.6.3 with a retaildisc to my new harddrive, it's the same problem again. My iMac just stops after a few minutes.

The diagnostics says there is nothing wrong. I've tried command+s option and "fsck -y -f" and all the other startup options. When I boot with the external drive it says nothings wrong.

Any suggestions what I should do? Thanks in advance!
