For the past several months, software updates have stopped installing automatically. I am regularly receiving the "Some updates could not be installed automatically" notification, and directing it to try installation again later is not successful. I suspect this may have to do with having a second user on my computer, because when I attempt to update software manually, sometimes I'm prompted for the other user's iCloud login.

Any idea how to fix this?

Typically this notice is given because the software that is to be updated is currently in use
Perhaps the other user has that software active, even if you don't

Thanks, but I don't think that's the issue here. The other user is usually logged off, and I keep only a few basic programs open, which wouldn't be updating often.

"Updates Don't Install Automatically Anymore"

My advice:
This is what you want -- that updates ARE NOT "automatically installed".

You want to turn automatic updates OFF.

My opinion only:
I don't like my Macs doing anything "behind my back".
If an update becomes available -- I want the option to install, or NOT to install it.

So... tell me that an update is available.
But let ME make the choice whether to download and install it, or not.

Hi Fishrrman. I appreciate your perspective, but that is a personal choice.

Still looking for a solution.

I understand that it is a personal choice, but I have seen apps getting screwed up by an update, so i disable auto update for that reason, and choose when i think it is safe to update.

Thank you for your perspective.

Can anyone please advise on the problem in the original post?
