Came across the recent security mac update by chance, did it this morning. How do I setup my settings to notify me of any updates automatically so I don't miss any and get the important ones like security when they come out. Thanks for any info.

Open System Preferences then open the App Store section at the bottom, then check the box I marked here. That will make you Mac automatically check for updates and when there is an update you will get a popup notification.
