iPhone 5 w/ latest iOS receives an invitation for a calendar event.

User opens the ics and adds it to his calendar.

No problem. Entry is made.

The original author of the calendar event changes the time/date/details of the event and resends the ics.

The iPhone 5 user opens the ics and the ORIGINAL details are listed... no changes appear.

No updates are made to the calendar.

If the iPhone 5 user forwards that ics to someone else, they see the changed details in the ics.

Any ideas on what this is????

================================

Some other odd behavior: sometimes the user cannot open the ics at all. Same originating source, and yet the behavior is different.

Originating sources tested are:

  • Local school using it's own CalDav server.
  • Exchange server.
  • Google Calendar

These are good known working sources that work 100% on a MS Exchange 2010 account.

The iPhone seems to retain the original calendar info and won't budge from that original information.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

so no one has had a single problem with iCal receiving updates to a previously received calendar item?

anyone have any follow up clues / advice we could try?

That's not what I see using Google calendars on both ends.

You don't really say if you're syncing your iPhone's calendar to anything. Probably has a lot of bearing on the question.

Thank you for your response.

No Google calendar involved.

Just updating the local calendar in the phone.

Also fails when we add an iCloud sync.

Updated calendar entries don't update in the iPhone calendar.

I don't know all the ins and outs of using the calendar app in a standalone capacity or even synced to iCloud. I do know that Google, and perhaps some of the other online services, has many configurable options for their calendars...more than iCloud.

These are the Google options for invitations...

Automatically add invitations to my calendar:
  • Yes
  • Yes, but don't send event reminders unless I have responded "Yes" or "Maybe"
  • No, only show invitations to which I have responded

I have the second choice selected.

The result is that changes made to invitation-type events get updated right away, at least from most sources.

I don't recommend using the iPhone calendar in stand-alone mode. If you decide to use iCloud, Yahoo, Google, hosted Exchange, or something else the calendar options and behavior will depend on your choice.

Thanks Brian,

Will switch to Exchange - or maybe even return to BB.

Large amounts of hair pulling here and looking to settle things down.

Thank you for your input.

All the best

I find using Outlook.com or iCloud works best. Remember that you must have a default calendar set for the sync acct for invites to work and sync properly.
