Curious to know from others on here performance wise if it is better right now upgrading to latest version of iOS 15 vs. the new iOS 16. I know the window is closing on the iOS 15 option soon, so thought I would check.
Thanks

I have an iPhone 7 Plus on iOS 13.4.1 out of the box and I have it currently on iOS 15.6 RC

Do I feel that it has been way slower than when it was on iOS 13? Maybe, however, I don't edit movies or play games on it so your experience may be different...

I have bought a pre-owned iPad 6 that was on iPadOS 13.7 about 2 weeks ago and I will be keeping it as is since I already have an iPad 9 on iPadOS 15.5 RC and I don't like the UI changes introduced in iOS 14 & 15 and iPadOS 14 & 15...

If you are after performance but not too considered about app compatibility and privacy and security, I would say stay on the old version... If you are concerned about privacy and security but looking for stability, go with iOS 15.7 but if you are feeling adventurous and is okay with updating the phone whenever a new release is available, go with iOS 16

I think iOS 15.6 RC is still signed but to be safe just go with iOS 15.7 public non-beta release...

I am holding out for 16.1 or later on SE2. However, I updated my iPhone 7 to iOS 15.7 as soon as it was released. There have been no adverse effects on the battery. However, a few minor hiccups like widgets not working and some apps not working as intended, probably due to new functionality added by devs. One big annoyance is the notifications on my watch (S5/OS8) are appearing in a reverse order, i.e. the latest ones are at the bottom, having to scroll down to view them. This is similar to some of the gripes shared on this bug-or-feature in iOS 16 and new iPhones, where the newer notifs get buried.

Keep it on iOS 13. Massive likelihood of battery life issues, and as the SE2 (and 3)’s battery life is not that amazing (the 4.7-inch standard, 8 hours of screen-on time with light use on Wi-Fi, 6 on LTE. Heavier usage and you should start counting down from there), it’s likely you won’t be very happy if you’re a moderate user.

Big chance iOS 15.7 as well as 16 will affect the battery performance… so if you dont have any issues with iOS 13.7, keep it.

Thanks for the responses. I don't particularly have any issue with iOS 13 and would stick with it because battery generally is pretty good and I generally prefer to stick with the iOS version originally designed for the iPhone. The main reason I am looking at the update route is that I am just now starting to notice some apps I rely on requiring later versions. So far I haven't been cut off from any or lost functionality on any, but i know it is only a matter of time for some important day to day apps, which is why I am weighing going to 15 or 16, even if battery may be impacted.
