Updating a jailbroken iphone 4 4.2.1?

I have a JB 4.2.1 iP4 and would like to upgrade to 4.3. It was jailbroken with greenpoison and I saw many threads of people who updated and got their device bricked.

Wondering if I needed to backup first or just hit the update and go. I dont care about saving cydia apps, just want to update for the streaming and hotspot function.

Sorry if this is a silly question, just wanted to be sure.
