Updating an app

I have an updated app but when i try to update it on my iphone it says the app is installed. How help on how to update it. P.s This is my first post and have had my iphone for about a week thanks

You might consider deleting the application and then redownloading it. This will fix most problems. And remember, if you previously purchased an application you will be able to redownload it for free.
