I need to update the system on a series 3 imac (year 2000) so I bought a 10.4 updater DVD.
Unfortunately the Imac doesn't have a DVD drive, just CD. I've tried making a disk image of the updater and copied it to the imac but although the installer starts to run, it just restarts the imac from the old system, presumably because it can't see the disk image due to it not being mounted at start up, and the updating process doesn't occur. I also tried to do this from a firewire disk with no joy either.
I would really appreciate any help on how to get the update to actually happen, as this is my wife's computer and I'm getting serious grief for not getting it sorted!!!
Thanks in anticipation
