updating from 2.1 to 3.0

Hi every one.

I have a JB 3g running 2.1
I want to update it to 3.0

Are these the steps I need to take ?

1- back up my phone
2-restore it
3-Update to 3.o
4-then restore it from the backup .
5- JB it using redsnow.

can any one comment if this is the right sequence ?
