So I'm getting the iPhone 6 on friday and I was wondering. Should I update my current iPhone 5 to iOS 8 before switching over to the 6? I know that the iPhone 6 will ship with iOS 8, so will it let me load my iCloud back up to it if my backup is iOS 7? Im worried it won't let me restore my iOS 7 back up to the new phone since it will be running iOS 8

You don't need to update your iPhone 5. Just make your iTunes/iCloud backup as normal and it'll work just fine. Of course, you can update just to get a preview of what iOS 8 will be like, but you don't have too.

I know I am. It will be a smooth transition and a faster one if you're planning on having a backup install rather than a fresh, clean one. And yeah, do a backup first with either iCloud, iTunes or both.
