Updating iPod to firmware 2.1

Hi,

I tragically run Windows ME and as far as I am aware I cannot update my iPod's firmware to version 2.1 because of this.
Does anyone know if Apple will release a version of 2.1 that is compatable with ME?
Its quite annoying as it would be nice to be able to use the Media card reader with my iPod as I use my digital camera an awful lot, but I can't do this unless I update my iPod to version 2.1 :(
