Hello all,

I want to update my late 2011 Mini Server's OS (pre-loaded) Lion 10.7.5 and Server (1.5.0) to Sierra, which I downloaded but have not installed. The App store shows MacOS Server (5.3.1) for $19.99. Does installing Sierra also update my Server (1.5.0) to a newer version? If yes, which version? If no, is there a free Server update version available?

You'll need to pay for Server 5.3 separately. Be sure that you have a full bootable backup before you upgrade in case something fails.

Thanks!
Can I install Sierra without paying for Server 5.3, then come back at a later time to pay for Server 5.3, separately?

You can, but none of the services provided by the Server app will work until you upgrade it.
