updating PRL on verizon iphone 5?

im new to verizon, have you not been able to update the PRL on the iphone in general? or is this new to iOS 6/iphone 5?

when i dial *228 it says i cant dial that #

Verizon LTE Phones don't use *228. They dynamically update roaming and tower information automatically.
