Updating redsn0w jailbreak

I have an iPhone4 that is jailbroken with redsn0ws 0.9.10b3. My iPhone is currently running iOS 5.0.1.

What would I need to do to update to the latest iOS version and keep the jailbreak?

Also, if I have to start with a fresh install, how do I recover apps downloaded or purchased through Cydia?

These are probably simple questions, but I am new to this. Thank you for your patience.

You really can't "keep" a jailbreak. To get to 5.1.1 just restore in iTunes then jailbreak with absinthe.

All your paid Cydia apps are linked to your facebook or google account which ever you picked.
