I saw a EweTube a few days ago warning about "borderline", older iPhones taking a chance on updating to iOS 26, even if its on the "Compatible" list. He mentioned that battery health, and Memory cluttering were reasons to be careful, and it made sense. However, this was one dude with one website I hadn't heard of before, so grains of salt were taken.
I have an SE v2, on iOS 18.6.2 (iirc), battery health at 80% and Memory use at 22%. The EweTube video guy recommended turning off "Auto Updates" until most of us see how an older phone takes to 26, that made sense to me and I turned it off. This afternoon I got a Notification that iOS 18.7 was ready (bug and security updates only) so I hit "Update Now", (phone just came off the charger) and it took 70 seconds or so to download. But, it took 15~20 minutes for the "Preparing to Install" and "Rebooting" messages (or whatever they are) to finally complete, and my phone was moderately warm when it finally did so (I've never felt my phone get warm before, nor have it take that long). The phone is now successfully on 18.7.
So, that's got me thinking even harder whether I want to even upgrade at all to iOS 26. I definitely will be doing so for my M1 iPad Pro, as the upgrade features are all things I've wished for. But, my phone is just used as a phone, Maps, Messages and that's about it (I don't even surf/play music on it, much less bank or purchase things with it).
So, not sure if upgrading would even be worth it to me. Hopefully anyone in this boat who DO upgrade could post about how it worked for you, TIA!
