Now that Beta 2 is out, has anyone figured out if you can update the beta if installed in a lightweight VM. I'm reluctant to install the beta in a VM if Apple still refuses to let them cleanly update. I know in Sequoia Apple added logging in to iCloud for VMs, but I still could not enable beta updates in a VM.

Just wondering…why are you folks installing it in a VM and not in a new APFS volume? System disk space limited?

If disk space was limited, then a VM would have a similar effect on disk space available to the main OS. There are a few reasons to run a beta in a VM instead of partitioning a drive or replacing your day to day OS:

- if something in the VM breaks, you can delete it and create a new one without affecting any other data on the machine.
- You can make side-by-side comparisons between Sequoia and Tahoe without having to constantly reboot between OSes.

I agree with dmccloud. The biggest advantage of a VM for me is being able to run both system side by side without having to reboot.

The VM container could be stored on an external drive if the system drive is limited.

As far as comparing a VM to the system installation…I guess. It wouldn't be a performance comparison and I'm thinking it wouldn't be great for testing external components…but I'm just extrapolating old experience with those thoughts.
