Updating win 8.1 pro to 10, external drive

I have win 8.1 running from a usb3 external samsung ssd on my late 2013 iMac. It runs fast with no problems. I’ve cloned the drive to another ssd with samsungs migration tool.
Now I want to upgrade one of drives to win 10.
I tried windows Media Creation Tool, but I get an error everytime I try to upgrade:

Any ideas? Is it possible to upgrade from the mounted ISO or from a USB install flash drive?
