Hi everyone i have late 2011 MBP and i want to update it to Mountain Lion. Do i first have to update it to Lion first or can i go straight to Mountain Lion? if i have to do Lion first were can i find it? i don't think its in the App Store anymore. Also if i do update it is it going to effect any of my other apps or files. thanks for the help.

If you have Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard on it, you can upgrade straight to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion via purchasing OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion in the Mac App Store (MAS).
If you have Mac OS X 10.7 Lion you can upgrade from there to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion via purchasing OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion in the MAS.

Software update, upgrade--what's the difference?
Key differences

A software update is usually downloadable free of charge; a software upgrade usually is not.
A software upgrade usually increments the first "dot" number of a product (for example Mac OS X v10.6, Mac OS X v10.5); a downloadable software update usually increments second "dot" number (for example, Mac OS X v10.6.8, Mac OS X v10.5.8).
