iPod touch Updating

So I bought a ipod touch before and tryd updating it but it would not. So i returned it and go another one. I pluged it in and it uploaded all the music to it, I change some settings to my likes and said I'll try updating it now. I hit update and the ipod went to the picture of the apple logo. Now the ipod went to that plug in to itunes picture and I got this. After 10 mins the ipod went to a black screen, dunno if it turned off or what....

If everything is supposed to be like this how long will it take? thanks

Mine took about 15 minutes. But each iPod touch is different.
Mine seems to back up faster than it did before the update.

Leave it overnight and if it is still that way in the morning, restore it. And then if it does that again after a restore, take it back.

So you are going from 1.1.4 to 2.0? Or from 1.1.4 to 1.1.5?

When I updated from 1.1.4 to 2.0, it took a LONG time, but it eventually worked fine. And now the 2.0.1 update was super quick, and my backups take no time at all

It woUld not update. I tryed to restore but it did the same thing, ipod just turns its self of after so long. I am taking it to a friends house and try and update it thier. Should not take longer than 30mins.
