I have a 2009 MBP, running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, 2.66ghz, 4gb of RAM. I would like to upgrade to Mountain Lion but I am afraid that it will slow my system down. (In the app store, I see complaints about this in the Mountain Lion reviews.) Will it be slower or faster after I upgrade? Will I run into any problems? Can I just install it the regular way or do I need to do a "clean" install? Should I pay a consultant to do a system cleanup and a clean install for me? I have never done anything to optimize or clean up my computer since I got it in 2009. It seems a little slower, to start programs and especially to quit programs (?).

Mostly I use InDesign CS5.5, sometimes some other Adobe products. I use Mac Mail. I have a Time Machine backup.

I would like to upgrade so that my iPhone will sync wirelessly with my computer calendar.

I will probably use this computer for about another year (I would like to upgrade to Retina Display after Adobe upgrades all their products to use it.)

Thanks for any advice!
