I am considering upgrading an M1 8gb 256gb mb air to an m2 16gb 512gb mb air. Is an M1 or M2 better for these specs. I run into issues with parallels excel projects. I use python often too, though I can't say I have run into issues with my current specs.

Any issue would more likely be on macOS side than on Apple silicon side I’d argue. And M2 doesn’t offer much of a performance boost compared to M1 for most people. So I don’t think experience will change too much. More ram is always better though, as well as bigger storage.
