Upgrade an iPhone 3GS to iOS4

Last year i purchased 3GS and vender ulocked it for my use
iPhone 4 launched and apple annouced that iPhone 3GS can be upgraded to
iPhone 4
How it can be done successfully

Anybody cann help me to use the new options available OS4 on my 3GS iPhone

backup the 3GS, then update the iOS in itunes and it will have all the new OS on and have all your bits just how you left it.

How did the vendor unlock it for you?
Is it a officially factory unlocked iphone or he Jailbroke it and unlocked it?
If you update to the latest 4.0.2 version thru itunes and your iphone is not factory unlocked it will lock up and you will not be able to activate, JB or unlock it for the moment.

If the vendor jailbroke your phone and unlocked it from there, updating your phone to the current version (4.0.2) would disable your jailbreak, therefore locking it. It cannot be unlocked until someone releases a future unlock. Most likely with 4.1

In almost all cases, upgrading your iPhone will remove your unlock. Don't take this the wrong way, but I would not recommend that you upgrade and try to unlock it yourself. Jailbreaking and unlocking can be somewhat complex procedures and a lot can go wrong.
You should try and take it back to the same vendor and have him upgrade it to 4.01 for you.
