I have a mid-2009 13" MBP that I bought with the 250GB SSD new. I have been waiting to replace it with Rsame but won't unless I can get 16GB RAM. So.... at this point, I need to replace the battery, need a larger drive, and a new trackpad.
Battery is easy; Apple does that and I live in Cupertino surround by Apple Stores. It is not worth having me or someone else do it because Apple keeps the cost at the battery retail cost since it being not easily user swappable is a consumer bone of contention.
I had this idea about installing a larger SSD and then swapping the drives when I get a new computer so I don't have to buy a large capacity SSD twice (I could even buy it with a spin drive assuming they are available and save $$). I would then put the 250GB back in the computer and the large one in my new computer. Is that even feasible? I would love a 600GB or 750GB SSD but I don't know if it will work in my current MBP and I sure don't know if it will work in the not-yet announced Haswell MBPs. When I read on the Apple order form that for the 13" MBP, disk size is not upgradeable which makes it sound like at least some of it is soldered flash chips, not a drive.
The trackpads are available and seem self-replaceable. I will also check with Apple on the cost as I do not have a feeling for it. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance for your wisdom and/or knowledge.
