upgrade and restore gone wrong

I tried to install the 2.0.2 update today and it got pretty far into the process and then gave me an unknown error message and bricked my phone. I unplugged it and plugged it back and tried a restore. That also got me the same error message. So I restarted my computer and tried the restore again. Now my phone is restored and working correctly but iTunes keeps bringing me back to the restore screen whenever I plug in the phone.

Windows Vista
iPhone 3G
iTunes 7.7.1.11

Any suggestions?
