This is more of a thought experiment than anything else, though I am interested in the future-proofing of my iMac Pro so I was just wondering if anyone has any experience in this regard.
As many people know the Xeon processor isn't sodered down in the iMac Pro so it can theoretically be replaced with a 2066 socket chipset. But does anyone know the adverse effects of this?
It's not my attention to doing this anywhere in the near future but a few years down the line (maybe like 6 years) I may be interested in seeing if 2066 Xeons work.
I know they are custom made for Apple by lowering power use, but I saw a few videos where it didn't seem to matter when replacing with standard Xeon Ws. But I am more unsure of the long term effects of an upgrade like this.
Just an experiment; curious if anyone has tried it?
