Hi folks,

I'm thinking of buying one of the current 20" Intel iMacs, and I'm wondering if I will be able to upgrade the 2.0 Core Duo to a Merom after they are released. (I understand that opening up an iMac will be difficult, but that isn't my concern.) I understand that the iMac is socketed and the current Core Duo will be pin compatible with Merom, but realistically, will I be able to buy a Merom chip a year from now and put it in the current iMacs?

Thanks folks! The Mac community rocks!

If it is pin compatible, the current (i945?) chipset, and the firmware supports the new processors, then it should work...

Thermal profiles should be about the same for a slightly faster processor, so I doubt that'll be an issue. We have to wait until we get more details on each part (just before launch) before anyone will know for sure.
