Upgrade eligible status changes after pre-order

Just curious, does your upgrade status change to not eligible after you pre-order your iphone 5? This is a question for those that were eligible for upgrade.

Yes your upgrade status changes. I just went on the at&t website and got this

You are not eligible at this time for an upgrade at a discounted price. However, you can take advantage of our no commitment pricing.

Ordered mine on Apple's website but it's not being delivered until October 5th. I'd cancel it if I thought there was a way I could get one tomorrow but I just don't see how it's possible at this point. I'd have to cancel my order in order to be eligible for the upgrade again now too.
