Upgrade from 10.2.8 to 10.4

Is it possible to upgrade a 10.2.8 installation to 10.4? I'm working on a friend's PowerBook G4, 1.0 GHz, 512 MB Ram. It has a DVD-R/CD-RW drive.

I'm not looking to do a fresh install but an upgrade. Any suggestions, recommendations or good tutorials?
