I currently have a base 15" MacBook Pro mid-2014, pretty good condition, and it easily fulfils my needs. However I've been thinking whether it's worth upgrading to a 2015 version of the 15"? I love this generation of MacBook Pro and want to increase how long I can keep it around.

As many have pointed out on this forum and elsewhere, the 2015 MacBook Pro is the best one ever made (https://marco.org/2017/11/14/best-laptop-ever) so is it worth upgrading to it, even from a 2014 model?

Pros
-better battery
-force touch trackpad
-faster SSD

Cons
-spending around £200-£250 on a computer that's sort of old
-risk buying a Mac that could have some kind of damage or issue not visible (looking to buy a slightly used one one eBay)

I wouldn’t bother you won’t notice any difference and a new battery costs less money if that’s what you need.

Unless you are talking about a loaded 2015 with the 2.8 GHz i7 and the M370x dGPU, and you are going for those because your current model is either insufficient or not quite enough (which it does not sound like), I can't say I really see the benefit. The exception might be if your current model is in rougher shape, if your battery is severely worn, or having force touch is worth the pricing difference?

Thanks guys, sounds pretty unanimous that there's no reason to upgrade.

I mean I do like the Force Touch trackpad but it isn't exactly worth £200+. Other than that, this Mac does everything I need :)

I have a strange spot in the middle of the screen which is like a bright smudge that I think is making me look changing the Mac, but it really isn't worth it .
