Upgrade from 3.1.3 to 4.0 on 1G

Hello all,
I just recently jailbroke my iPod and so far I love it. The next thing I'd like to do is install iOS 4 on it, but I am a little unsure as to how to do this. I've read some pages that I can download 4.0 from a direct link off the internet and then install it that way.

Now, before I do that can the 1G's hardware even handle 4.0? Or will I be ok with it? Any help is definitely appreciated.

Ok, I was able to find a mod of 3.1.3 that resembles 4.0. For those who still have a 1G iPod (like me), here is the link. I just installed it now and it works beautifully.

help upgrade from 3.1.3 to 4.0 or 4.0.1 on 3g mc model

how do you upgrade on 3G MC model ipod touch that was jailbroke with spirit already? my upgrade on iTunes keep asking for to 4.0.2.
please any help at all to ios 4 out there?
