Upgrade from iMovie

To someone who has used them. I currently use iMovie to edit video and it is good and all, but it is pretty limited on many aspects. I'm looking to upgrade a little and was wondering how dated FCExpress is and if it would be worth it to use that over the current iMovie. I don't want to make the full jump to the current FCP mainly because of the price. So anyone who is or has used FCX recently, let me know what you think.
