Heaven or Hell
Can i upgrade straight from Tiger 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard ?

I have an intel based Macbook Pro and am running Tiger 10.4.11...
Can i just buy the $29 Snow Leopard Disk at the Apple Store
and use that ??

THanks!!!

I am not used to doing Mac upgrades, so
will i lose any data during the upgrade ?

Do i use Migration Assistant or just the upgrade option ?

Data loss

This needs a mention here, I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard without a problem, all my stuff remained intact, but recently after backing up to Time Machine, wiping my hard drive and then reversing the back up, I (and many others) lost all the photo's on iPhoto, and to date, I have not been able to recover them, it appears that when loading Snow Leopard onto a clean disc using Time Machine the iPhoto library gets wiped out, so forewarned is forearmed, be careful and do extra backups of your pictures.

That being said, from my experience of upgrading I would not expect you to have the same problems.

Ukuleleman - I too am contemplating upgrading from Tiger on a MBP to SL. How did it go? Are you up and running problem free? Stable? Did you use the boxed set or the $29 dvd? Did it also upgrade iLife? Any issues I should be concerned about? I use SuperDuper and have a bootable clone should I need to revert. Please let me know how it went and if you are satisfied. How long did it take?

Just realized Tiger doesn't have Time Machine.

I guess SuperDuper might be a good option to back up ??

The $29 SL will not upgrade iLife. You need the box set for that. But, you're really supposed to get that anyway to jump from Tiger to SL.
