Upgrade HD on the 21.5, I5 2.5gh

I want to buy the Imac 21.5, I5, 2.5gh. It have all I need but 500G of memory is a little tight. Apple say we can't upgrade the HD to 1T or more. Is it only the company policy or it is faisable?
