Please help with upgrade of Mac OS 10.6.8 to current mac OS. I have mac book pro 2010 with upgraded 500 GB SSD drive and 8 GB ram. Unable to upgrade using app store software because the 10.6.8 does not upgrade this way. So I bought a OS 10.8 disc off ebay. After running the disc I get an error message that the OS can't upgrade. My understanding was I needed to go to 10.8 and then would be able to upgrade using the app store. Any suggestions on what to do? I need the latest OS 10.13.6 so I can run current browser to run video chat for example and other online sites.

Apple does not support Mojave on a 2010 MBP. Note the Hardware requirements - 2012 MBP or newer:

The maximum OS for your MBP is High Sierra (10.13.6), which will support the latest Browsers.
I suspect the reason the App Store will not upgrade you to Mojave is because it is not supported on you MBP.

The minimum OS requirements for High Sierra is OS 10.8 (costs $19.99 from Apple).

Buy OS 10.8 from Apple:

Link to El Capitan (10.11.6) if you want to try that (since you are on Snow Leopard):

Link to High Sierra via the App Store (after you have 10.8 or above):
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-high-sierra/id1246284741?mt=12

Remember, High Sierra will support the latest browsers.

I suggest you make a good backup of your system, then try installing El Capitan. If that goes well, then proceed to High Sierra if desired. Remember make a backup anytime you upgrade the OS.
