Hi

I will soon be getting an Imac 20inch late 2007 with a 2.4 core 2 duo 320gb hd and 4gb ram.

What is the maximum size of Harddrive that fits into that machine and/or is it possible to upgrade the processor to a faster one?

You can install up to 2TB HD. Upgrading CPU isn't really possible and even if it was, it wouldn't be worth it
 
The fastest available is a 2.8GHz Core 2 Extreme. By the time you buy that, you might as well have sold your iMac and bought a refurb one with a 3.06GHz.

2.4GHz C2D is T7700 which uses socket P so theoretically, T9900 (3.06GHz dual) and QX9300 (2.53GHz quad), but as you said, for the money he could buy a brand new iMac
