Upgrade ipod touch 2G jailbreak v3.0 to 4.0

I've been struggling to upgrade from 3.0 to 4.0 (or 3.1.2 would be ok since it should be easy to use jailbreakme.com from there). Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Apple is not signing anything lower than iOS 4.0.2 anymore. You can't update to anything other than iOS 4.0.2

After I update is there a way to jailbreak v 4.02 or downgrade to 4.0? If no, I would rather keep the JB 3.0 vs non-JB 4.02.

Since you have a second-generation iPod touch, you can use redsn0w to jailbreak it, even on iOS 4.0.2

Are people with third generation iPod touches w/ 4.02 screwed permanently?

If you have an iPod MC model w/ 4.02, are you going to be permanently unable to jailbreak? Is there any chance a future jb would work for MC models or are MC model owners just screwed and going to be left in the dust?
