Upgrade jailbroken 3GS to 4.0?

I have a 3GS old bootrom jailbroken and unlocked on 3.1.3. I would like to know if I can now upgrade and jailbrake to 4.0 using sn0wbreeze?

Yes, you can use pwnagetool (recommended) or sn0wbreeze (not recommended) to create a custom 4.0 firmware and upgrade, as long as your phone has the old bootrom.

This is true only if the OP used redsn0w or PwnageTool to jailbreak his phone. If he used Spirit, then he's out of luck unless he has 3.1.2 SHSH on file and can downgrade and pwn.

I went from 3.1.3 jailbroken (pwnage) to 4.0 jailbroken (pwnage) on old bootrom. Works great, but as mentioned above, pwnage jailbreak needs to be your starting point.

I could have upgraded my modem firmware as well but I chose to keep it at 4.26.08.

Not true.

Just this morning my 3GS (old bootrom) went from 3.1.3 jailbreak (Spirit) to 4.0 jailbreak (Sn0wbreeze). The key is to grab Spirit2Pwn off Cydia before using Sn0wbreeze.

Works great.
