Hey all, apologies for another one of these 'should I?' posts. I wondered if anyone could please advise on upgrading my Macbook Air 2017 which I bought porbably around a year ago when my 2012 MB Pro died and I needed to finish an assignment. I went for the 256gb hard drive model and it's been ok, I'm just wary of the screen (I have to zoom in quite a bit on websites etc to avoid eye strain) and I've also noted how dated this looks compared to the new Air. I'm also thinking that as time goes on, these machines are going to drop in value due to being such an old design if I upgrade in the future - so to sell/trade in now would maximise the return on it.

I'm not a fan of the new keyboards (love the feel of the old, scissors keyboard for typing) but for longevity, should I upgrade to the new MBA while I still have student discount (until August/September)? I mainly use it for word processing, web browsing, essay writing - that kind of thing.

Thanks for reading, any advice is much appreciated :)

With your 2017 MBA you can upgrade storage to the NVMe M.2 with higher capacity storage. There are good writeups on this in this forum. You should check them out.

I'm staying away from the newer laptops because of the problematic "butterfly" style keyboards. There have been too many issues with them and people are now starting to report issues with the new Gen3 Butterfly keyboards that are installed on the new 2018 MBAs... no thanks.
