I'd like to upgrade my 2009 macbook pro to SSD, and also install ML in the process. I'd like some insight into what's the best way to do this.

I was thinking the following:

1. Put my new SSD in enclosure
2. Boot from ML usb startup stick
3. Fresh install new ML OS on the new SSD (within enclosure)
4. Once done, SWAP my HHD (w/ SL and Data) w/ SSD (w/ ML and no data)
5. Put the old HDD in enclosure now
6. Use migration assistant to copy just the files over

Do you think there are any issues with this approach?
Is there an easier method?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Ok, it took me a while to understand what you meant, but I think I understand now. By enclosure, you mean replacing your DVD drive by the SSD, right?

I would think an easier way to do it would be to install the SSD directly in the spot where your current HDD sits and put the HDD in the enclosure. After the OS installation process you can migrate your data.

However I am not entirely sure whether migrating your data from Lion (data from the HDD) to your SSD running ML will work well, you might hit some compatibility issues, but maybe I'm just paranoid. You might have to install Lion fist on your SSD, migrate the data and then upgrade to ML. Other people on the forum might have had that experience...
