Hi, I am considering upgrading my traditional HD drive to SSD recently, and from relevant thread, the process seems to be simple. The only problem is how to find the screw driver which fits the screws exactly?

Will the computer store lend me the screw driver for free?

You should get these tools anyhow.

A decent hardware store or even sears will have "Jeweler's screwdrivers." You may need to go to a Radio Shack or Fry's to get small Torx screwdrivers.

They are cheap and you will want to own them going forward in life.

The Jewelers screw drivers remove the cover on the MBP.

The Torx holds the hard drive in the case.

You'll need both.

I have a similar (if not the same) jeweler's set. One of the flat-blade screwdrivers was exactly the same size as the torx, and I was able to use that instead.

I also own this set, which includes the torx. Might want to consider it instead.

I bought two nice sets from Lowes yesterday. One was small torx and the other was small slotted/phillips. They were only about $6 each and made upgrading my mbp hard drive go smoothly!

I got the OWC Data Doubler kit that came with about 4-5 screwdrivers; I used exactly one of them for the whole process (the small Philips head; I have the same one in a jeweler's/eyeglass kit)

Edit: I did this to remove the optical and replace with an SSD; didn't do anything to the HDD...so nevermind, if that doesn't apply.

I got it at my local Home Depot.

+1 on the Home Depot. They had some really handy screwdriver and torx sets for 6 bucks each.

- Husky 6-Piece Phillips and Slotted Screwdriver Set (Model # 74501)
- Husky 6-Piece Hex Screwdriver Set (Model # 74502)

These are great screw drivers and for the money you can't beat it. I would recommend these over any.

I'd also recommend a good set of adjustable pliers, for those times when a screwdriver just won't cut it (as happened to me when I tried to get the bolts off of my MBP's hard drive).

I would use them only for my MBP. I've gone through 3 sets of various husky tools. The metal used is incredibly soft.

For anyone doing serious workbench type tinkering, Wiha tools are well regarded.
