upgrade needed?

hi i'm a newbie here, sorry if this sounds like a dumb question..
i have a
24-inch, Early 2008
Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
Software OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
and i'm running lightroom 4, cs6 and usually the internet at the same time..
is this too much for this system?
it is slow rendering images and sometimes crashes..so thinking of upgrading to an older(probably 2011) 27" with 12-16gb of ram as i can only go to 6gb on my machine.
or would changing to an SSD help speed up rendering?

You're most likely running in to a memory issue.

Do look at what refurb iMacs Apple has for sale. They have mostly 2012 models currently with a few 2011s. You'll save money and still have a 1 year Apple Warranty.
