All,

I currently have an iMac 2019 27" 5K Retina in which I upgraded the CPU from the i5 to a 3,6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 and the NVME with the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB.

All works "fine" except that due to the know TRIM issue with the Samsung 970 EVO I am getting boot time above 7 mins. As such I am looking to upgrade/replace that NVME with something that is better supported. I read somewhere that WD NVMEs have better TRIM support. And given I am going to go into the fuss of openning the machine again, I thought I may as well upgrade the storage, so I would like to ask:
  1. Has anyone used the WD Black SN850X 4TB in their iMac upgrades?
  2. Do I need to worry about a heat sync? I can only get the model without a heatsink (WDS400T2X0E).
  3. If a heatsink is recommended, can you propose one?
My current Samsung 970 EVO Plus without a heatsink is reporting operating temps at 60-62 celcius and I am not seeing any (obvious) issues.

I am also looking at putting in a 4tb WD black SN 850X, was wondering how your upgrade went and if you used a heatsink.
Many thanks
