watchOS 10.0.1 was just released. My Ultra 2 will arrive tomorrow. Definitely with watchOS 10.0 installed.

Migration strategy will be: unpair old watch, create backup, restore Ultra 2 from backup.

Just to confirm: leave old watch on 10.0 and after pairing Ultra 2 update the new watch with 10.0.1?

Can remember that for backup/restore both watches have to be on exact same version level. Right?

I think that you can update your current watch and when you receive the new one you can update it too before restoring. Start as new=>update and then restore.

Pretty sure the new watch will check for updates as part of the pairing process, so shouldn't matter.

IIRC you could simply pair the new Ultra2 and it'll ask if you're replacing the old watch, in which case it'll do the unpair/backup/restore as part of the pairing/setup process.

I'm not updating my current watch because there were times in the past where the new watch would not restore from the backup of the old watch that had a newer version of the software. Maybe the process is different now (as it should be)

I will likely update my Ultra 1 this afternoon.
As for my Ultra2, I always set up my watches as new as a method to review all the various settings/options…

Ok, got my new watch and thanks again. Worked like a charm.
Before restoring, the Apple Watch app said the new watch needs an update. Did that and then restored the backup on the new watch.

Maybe a stupid question: when I restored the backup of my AW7 to the Ultra 2, the name of the Ultra 2 was also "Apple Watch 7 of...". Changed the name in the AW App but now my device list at Apple and in the Apple Store App shows the device name still as "Apple Watch 7" and in the description it says "Apple Watch Ultra 2". How do I change the name there?

Just spitballing but I'd give it a day or so for changes to flow through to the other apps. I'm not aware of a separate naming mechanism for the downstream stuff.

Hi, Just to confirm. You updated your old watch to 10.0.1. Then you unpaired it. Then you added the new watch and wanted to restore from the backup of your old watch. It did the update and restored from that backup?

Exactly.

Also, the process to transfer my eSim was working great.
