I currently have a 3G 16gb iPhone and my wife has a 3G 8gb iPhone. We both got them on the same day (July 17th last year). When I check the upgrade eligibility, it says I can't upgrade 'till 12/17/2009 and her line says 03/17/2010.

Now, she doesn't really need an upgrade to a 3GS (and of course she'll argue that I don't either) but I do want one. I'm eyeing the 32GB model, but I'd have to pay the $499 instead of $299.

Since her upgrade date is further out and I'd have to pay $499 either way, should I upgrade her line and then after I get home, swap the handsets? That way, I'd get my 3GS 32gb, she'd get my 3G 16gb, and then my line is still at 12/17/2009 and he line will be like 06/17/2011 (or a few months sooner I guess).

Just wondering if I'll have any issues with the lines or accounts if I do that "swap".

Thanks!

I strongly recommend you call ATT and ask about the announcement yesterday and how exactly it affect you. Which account it the primary account. If not yours, have them change it.

NO. upgrade hers. call at&t and tell them to swap the IMEIs on the account. easy.

there are a bagillion threads on this. SEARCH BAR IS VERY USEFUL.:D

anyhow... you can do this with ANY phone on ANY network. just switching IMEI's and sim cards is all. :D

I called this morning and they said that mine was what it was (dec 2009) and they wouldn't move it. :(

I called again a little while ago. Really am trying! They just said to type *639#. The lady also said that it's up to Apple to give me the discount. Isn't it AT&T's upgrade eligibility date that drives this?

I moved from Verizon to AT&T in Sept 2007. Never missed any payments (always auto-pay to the credit card). Always had two iPhones on the account.
