so my mom currently has an older macbook pro with os high Sierra on it she cant afford a new or even used m1 mac mini so i was wondering how well a 2018 mac mini with say 16 gigs of ram would do for her? she basically just uses her mac for google facebook and the occasional word doc and youtubes

for those who ask she refuses to use a windows pc shes been using her mac for so long she cant go back to windows thoughts opinions advice price wise shes limited to $200 us max maybe 250 but thats a stretch

her mac is old and some of the apps such as her web browser are out dated and some web sites no longer work

"319 is way above the max 250 shes able to spend"

Throw some $$ her way and tell her it's her birthday/Christmas present for the next two years.

If you're looking at a 2018 Mini, buying from the Apple online refurbished store is far and away the best choice. You KNOW what you're getting, and you get a 1-year warranty as well.

If you buy used, you could end up with some nasty surprises, which will cost MORE money in the long run.

DO get 16gb of RAM... necessary for the future.
For her use case, a 256gb SSD will be good enough.

You'll need a display, keyboard, and mouse.
If you have any spares around, they'll do for a start.
